Exposure to potentially hazardous noise levels is inevitable in the workplace, although noise-induced hearing loss is preventable. Repeat exposure to noise 85+ decibels over 8 hours can result in permanent hearing loss. Workers who are routinely exposed excess noise levels of 85 decibels or greater are required by WorkSafe BC’s regulations to be tested annually. Hearing tests are extremely important because they diagnose the beginning of noise-included hearing loss long before workers are able to notice it. They can also detect serious medical issues before symptons are present.

Our Hearing Testing Process
During the hearing test the worker will be seated in our sound proof booth with earphones placed over their ears. The audiometric technician will send a series of tones and record results. After testing the workers will be counseled about their results, the necessary follow-up, annual testing to effectively monitor the hearing of noise exposed workers, as well as the types of hearing protection best suited for them. This will take approximately 15 minutes.
